A treatment that originates back to ancient civilisations across the world, Egypt, China and India. The earliest being the Egyptians dating back to 2500 BC, whereby reflexology evidence was found on the tomb of an Egyptian physician.
Dr William Fitzgerald developed the modern zone theory of the human body in the early 20th century, arguing that parts of the body correspond to other parts and offering proof that applying pressure to one area of the foot aneasthetised a corresponding area.
Then in the 1930’s Eunice Ingham a physiotherapist used zone therapy in her work with patients and found that the feet were the most responsive areas for working the zones, as there were very sensitive, eventually mapping the entire body onto the feet and that by alternating pressure onto various points, had therapeutic effects far beyond just zone therapy which had previously been used, namely for reducing pain……………so then reflexology was born.
